April in Cambridge

April is a gorgeous month to visit this historic waterfront community. With the arrival of warmer weather, walking tours of the historic district begin, again, and the Skipjack Nathan sets sail on the Choptank for those wishing to experience life as it was on the River in past centuries. April is still an R month, so devotees of oysters will find them on the menus in many of our great restaurants. Second Saturday is always a draw - there are art walks, and shops and galleries are open late. Several will host wine/cheese receptions at no cost to the guests who frequent them. You might even take a drive to Hooper's Island and visit an oyster farm. That's correct; they are farm raising oysters now, and it's a thriving industry. Crab season opens April 1 as well! The new Harriet Tubman National Park and State Park is now open. It's a treasure! Of course the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge which is adjacent to the new park is always special, and our osprey are now back from their southern sojourn in Costa Rica!

Take a leisurely stroll to visit galleries, shops, and restaurants in our downtown. For kayakers and other paddlers, trails at Blackwater are now open. Ride a bike, take a marsh hike, or sit a spell on our River porch.
